Inquiry: The Hidden Sense: Synesthesia In Art And Science -Cretien van Campen

Have you ever smelled a color? Or heard the song of a day of the week? If so, you may be a synesthete. For many decades, psychologists and neurologists have looked at synesthesia as a pathological state, a symptom of a faulty sensory system. Tonight’s guest thinks differently. CRETIEN VAN CAMPEN is a social scientist at the Social and Cultural Planning Office of the Netherlands and he has spent years interviewing and testing synesthetes. His discoveries open up an amazing world beyond our basic five senses and look at how synesthesia, far from being a problem that should be cured, may actually aid our creativity. Cretien van Campen’s book is THE HIDDEN SENSE: SYNESTHESIA IN ART AND SCIENCE.
