Please join Passim staff and some amazing artists in Kendall Square for a FREE outdoor summer concert series!

Swingin' in Mothers Rest is a way of bringing families and people of all ages together to experience live jazz in this historic park. Each year, Swingin' in Mothers Rest presents Berklee's talented up-and-coming students, and renowned professors and alumni, performing a variety of jazz styles.

Featured this evening: Carolyn Wilkins, Berklee Professor of Ensembles who is a pianist / vocalist in the tradition of Diana Krall, Shirley Horne, and Nina Simone, as well as an educator who has helped launch the careers of thousands of singers. Her performance experience includes radio and television appearances with her group SpiritJazz, work as a Jazz Ambassador for the U.S. State Department, and concert appearances with Melba Moore, Nancy Wilson, the Fifth Dimension, and the Pittsburgh Symphony under Andre Previn. Wilkins has released four critically acclaimed CDs of original compositions.

A sexy chick playin' a mean horn, keyboards and singin' too? That's Kelley B.! Her band, Hot Like Fire has emerged as the most sought after authentic reggae party band on the East Coast music scene for the past nineteen years. They perform current, popular reggae and soca music as well as classic favorites by Bob Marley and of course that "Hot Hot Hot" song!

Kurtis Kinger has been a singer/songwriter for over 25 years in the Central Vermont area. His soulful originals and covers are genre-bending blends of folk, root blues, alternative, and rock mixed with natural-born funk and soul and a sense of humor goes straight to the funny bone Kurtis is deeply soaked in Delta Blues harmonica playing, and his strong vocals and soothing guitar-playing go straight to the heart.

Steve Howard is a singer songwriter who, although based in New England, has performed his music all over the country. He has worked and shared the stage with many noted performers from Tom Rush and Jamie Brockett to Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, Dave Bromburg, Juice Newton and Lacy J. Daltron. His songs are stories, sometimes serious, at times humorous but each with Steve's unique style and craftsmanship.

Bruce Marshall, a celebrated singer songwriter from Concord, will host acoustic open mike every Wednesday night. Musicians are invited to perform with Bruce or solo. Bruce has recently released a solo CD entitled Restless Soul. The 15 song disc contains solo acoustic versions of some of Bruce's most requested original songs some of which that have not been previously released. This is Bruce's first solo CD and is being released in conjunction with his receiving the "Outstanding Acoustic Musician" award in the Blues Audience Magazine Readers Poll for '07.
