This year offers a new twist as we celebrate the International Year of the Organ with "Waffles and Widor at Wesley." Brett Maguire, the new Director of Music Ministries at Wesley, will be playing all ten of the organ symphonies of Charles-Marie Widor, one symphony per month, with an inexpensive noontime waffle brunch preceding the 12:30 p.m. concert.

While Widor (1844-1937) is best known for the Toccata from his fifth symphony, his symphonies contain many other treasures and they remain some of the most idiosyncratic works ever written for the instrument. Hearing them all in sequence offers a unique opportunity to experience his development as one of the greatest composers for the organ.

The Pipes Alive! organ concert series is part of the Music Alive! season. Offered by Wesley United Methodist Church as "our gift to the City," all concerts are free and open to the public. The Hartford Conservatory presents Duke Ellington's Jazz Nutcracker. An exciting rhythmic version of the Nutcracker classic with jazz, tap, swing, modern and ballroom dance styles of 1940's Harlem.

The New England Jazz Ensemble Septet provides the live musical accompaniment to Darcie Froman's choreography.

Participatory "Messiah" sings have been a part of the Christmas season all over the world, and now TCAN has become part of this tradition with its second annual "Messiah" sing. Jon Ceander Mitchell, conductor of the U Mass Boston and Boston Neopolitan Chamber Orchestras, will once again take the baton as he leads you, as part of the chorus, along with featured soloists and an instrumental ensemble. So, get your voices ready. All are invited to participate in performing Handel's masterpiece--a joyous celebration and a perennial favorite of singers and audiences alike. Optional pot-luck dinner to follow.
