Phil Yoon Group
Phil Yoon is a drummer from South Korea who has been awarded M.M. with Distinction, Jazz Performance, Longy School of Music, P. Diploma, Jazz Performance, and Berklee College of Music. B.A. He has had numerous performances and TV & Radio appearances in South Korea and the US and has also appeared with Donny McCaslin, George Colligan, Johannes Weindenmuller, Jed Levy, Don Braden, Mark Gross, David Berkman, Steve Turre, David Ephross, Bill Moring, Ron Jackson, David Smith, Greg Murphy, Dmitri Kolesnik, Charlie Kohlhase, David Bryant, Ron Mahdi, George Garzone, Toru Dodo, Rusty Scott, Joris Teepe, Bruce Williams, and others.
He is a nominee of Henry Mancini Award and has participated in more than 10 recordings. Phil has been noticed by many newspapers and magazines and also appeared on City Line on ABC, as a one of the most active Asian jazz musician in New England. As a leader, his first CD titled E. J."(Homage of Elvin Jones) from EMI was awarded the 2007 Best Jazz Album in Korea by MM Jazz which is the number one jazz magazine in Korea. Also in 2012 his project band called "'Straight Ahead' has released their debut CD from Warner Music, which has ranked among the top four for the best jazz album of the year by MM Jazz.
He is a regular drummer of Kwak, Yoonchan Jazz Trio. The Pianist, Kwak, Yoonchan, is the only Blue Note artist in Korea. Phil is also the regular member of Song, Wooyoung Modern Jazz Octet and has appeard with Song, Junseo Trio in Jarasum Jazz Festival. He has been invited to many jazz festival including Jarasum International Jazz Festival, Daegu InFestivalternational Jazz Festival, Ulsan International Jazz, Seoul Dootah Jazz Festival, Arte-TV Jazz Festival, and others.
