Berklee BeanTown Jazz Festival Presents: Snarky Puppy

With the release of its live, two-disc album/DVD Tell Your Friends, Snarky Puppy has gone from an underground secret to one of the most internationally respected names in instrumental music. The New Face of Jazz called the group "one of the most inventive in sound and funk since Maynard Ferguson's fusion years."

Snarky Puppy delivers raw funk and sensitive dynamics, relentless pocket and lyrical melodicism, lush harmony and soulful simplicity, and most importantly, a delicate mixture of composition and improvisation.

Professor Dixon declares that we are now in the “postfilmic era”, a time when movie film will no longer exist and all movies will be shot digitally. DVDs will also cease to exist as all films will be “streamed” and movie houses, those that are still extant, will only show digital copies of movies.

Certain crime films made in Hollywood between 1944 and the early 1960s have come to be known as Film Noir. These movies challenged many of the beliefs about the American Dream in the socially chaotic period following Word War II. The cherished ideas of upward mobility, the benefits of free enterprise and the ability to remake yourself are all warped and critiqued in films like Gun Crazy, Laura and The Dark Corner. Tonight on Inquiry we talk with MARK OSTEEN.
