“Benedicite”, a choral concert

The adult choirs of First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, Trinity Church in Northborough and Wesley United Methodist Church in Worcester combine with the Worcester Youth Orchestras, area professional musicians and the FCC children’s choirs to present the contemporary English composer Andrew Carter’s Benedicite.

Pianist Thomas Lauderdale is a cofounder of the celebrated orchestral ensemble Pink Martini, which bridges classical, jazz, world music and old fashioned pop. On this Song Travels, Lauderdale brings along a few of his musical collaborators, including NPR’s Ari Shapiro, who proves to be as good a singer as he is a journalist. Lauderdale solos on “Malagueña” by Ernesto Lecuona, and duets with Feinstein on George Gershwin’s “The Man I Love.”

In the decade and a half since, both Grammy Award–nominated musicians have reached international and critical acclaim while forging their own distinctive voices as modern jazz icons.

The duo format fosters a new convergence for these friends to reunite for an intimate performance in which they can openly create music that swings and deeply connects to the spirit.
