WICN: Broadcasting in HD Radio
WICN is now broadcasting in HD Radio technology. What does that mean?
Have you wished you could get the same clarity of sound from your radio as you do from your CD? Or that your radio signal didn't fade out just when you wanted to listen to a song? Well, now you can.
HD Radio is a technology destined to revolutionize the AM and FM broadcasting industry. Approved by the FCC as the digital broadcast system for the radio industry, the noise and interference that cause the static, hiss, pops, and fades heard on today's analog radios will be virtually eliminated with HD Radio digital broadcasting. In addition to crystal clear reception, HD Radio will dramatically enhance sound fidelity - FM will rival the quality of compact discs.
So just think, you will be able to hear WICN in its purest, clearest digital form. Your favorite artists will sound awesome...crystal clear...straight from the recording studio!
HD Radio technology allows for enhanced data services. What does that mean?
HD Radio technology provides us with the ability to send additional data such as weather alerts, news bulletins and more information which will be visible on the data screen of your HD Radio receiver, adding a new dimension to broadcasting. We hope to add some of those features to our signal in the near future.
How can I hear WICN's broadcast in HD Radio technology?
To hear WICN in its purest digital form, you will need a special HD Radio receiver for either your car or home audio system, available soon.
The good news is that WICN will remain on the same dial position (90.5 FM) and you can still hear WICN with your current analog radio. But if you have a new HD Radio receiver you will hear us in our new digital format.
