Vermeer was a 17th-century painter from Delft. Little is known about his life, and his output consists of only 35-37paintings. His work was largely ignored in the 18th Century, but his reputation today is as one of the greatest painters of all time. He has even been considered a modernist by art critics and even film directors. How did this happen? Tonight on Inquiry we welcome RUTH BERNARD YEAZELL.
