The Emerging Artists Series Welcomes The LimeLiters

🎶 THERE’S A MEETING HERE TONIGHT! 🎶

A legendary folk trio is returning to New England—and they’re coming to WICN’s Studio 50!

On Thursday, September 24, The Limeliters will perform before a live studio audience as part of WICN’s Emerging Artist Series, while simultaneously broadcasting on The Folk Revival and streaming live to listeners around the world.

The Limeliters launched their career in 1959 at San Francisco’s legendary Hungry I. Founding members Alex Hassilev, Lou Gottlieb, and Glenn Yarbrough soon became some of the most recognizable voices of the early-1960s folk revival. Their best-selling RCA albums, television appearances, and even their famous “Things Go Better with Coke” jingle helped make them a household name.

Time Magazine famously described their appeal by calling the Kingston Trio the “undergraduates” of big-time folk singing—and The Limeliters the faculty.

More than six decades later, the tradition continues. Andy Corwin, Daniel Boling, and Steve Brooks carry on the group’s signature soaring vocals, thrilling harmonies, energy, and quirky sense of humor.

And for WICN listeners, this performance has an especially special connection. For nearly 20 years, the Limeliters’ classic recording of “There’s a Meeting Here Tonight” has opened The Folk Revival every Thursday evening.

On September 24, that familiar song will open the show once again—but this time, The Limeliters themselves will be performing it live in Studio 50!

🎤 Special guests: Local New England artists Beth DeSombre and Ron Carlson will perform during intermission.
