From 1870 until just before the Second World War, cats changed their status radically. They went from scrawny alley inhabitants to treasured and pampered pets. She is an emerita professor of life writing at the University of East Anglia. Her new book is CATLAND: LOUIS WAIN AND THE GREAT CAT MANIA.
