Philip Hoare – Oscar Wilde
February 7, 2022
During World War I, Britain went into a grim moral panic, declaring that one of the reasons they were losing the war was because of moral decadence at home. This often focused on homosexuals, which were seen as still being under the influence of Oscar Wilde. Even though he had been dead for 13 years! On this episode of Inquiry, we welcome back writer and professor of creative writing, PHILIP HOARE. He will be talking about his book OSCAR WILDE’S LAST STAND: DECADENCE, CONSPIRACY, AND THE MOST OUTRAGEOUS TRIAL OF THE CENTURY.
