On this episode, WICN contributing writer and podcast host Doug Hall speaks with Ángela Varo, a recent master’s scholar and current undergrad at Berklee College of Music with a B.M. in Contemporary Writing and Production, Performance and graduated 2023 with M.M. Global Jazz program.
Ms. Varo is an Andalusian violinist, educator, multi-instrumentalist, improviser, arranger, producer, and composer from Baena, Córdoba. Growing up in a very musical family, between Opera and Flamenco, music and the fusion of cultures have always been her main means of expression. She specializes in the fusion of jazz and flamenco violin, among other styles. She collaborates with flamenco versions of women’s compositions with flamenco guitarist Antonio Contiñez. Varo is part of Grammy-nominated Danilo Perez’s Global Jazz Messengers.
