Talk About Jazz with Doug Hall: Milena Casado

WICN’s musical guest is Spanish-born, New York-based jazz trumpeter, flugelhornist, composer, bandleader & producer Milena Casado and Berklee College of Music graduate. Ms. Casado’s debut recording, Reflection of Another Self (and quoting now from her press release) “portrays Milena’s introspective journey of self-discovery as she explores her Afro-Latina heritage by unpacking personal traumas and finding her voice.” Featuring cutting-edge musicians including the legendary jazz drummer & multiple Grammy Award–winning drummer, producer, and educator Terri Lyne Carrington, and the multi-instrumentalist Morgan Guerin, Reflection of Another Self also includes an array of exceptional special guests: including harpist Brandee Younger, flutist Nicole Mitchell, pianist Kris Davis, sound artist and turntablist Val Jeanty and the MC KOKAYI. Meshell Ndegeocello stops by to lay down a bassline on “Self Love,” the meditative closer of pure uplift. Alongside these artists is a core band including some of the finest improvising musicians in the game: pianist Lex Korten, bassist Kanoa Mendenhall, drummer Jongkuk Kim, and Morgan Guerin on EWI.
