Birds have been closely connected with human beliefs, myths, and religions since prehistoric times. Humans have used birds as food, worshipped them as deities, and used them as symbols in our art and poetry. Why is this bird/human connection so prevalent and unique? On this episode of Inquiry, we talk with BORIA SAX. He teaches at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, New York, and online in the graduate literature program at Mercy College. His new book is AVIAN ILLUMINATIONS: A CULTURAL HISTORY OF BIRDS.
