Have you ever seen a dense flock of starlings wheeling back and forth across a field? Or seen a jay take nuts from your feeder and fly away with them? Have you wondered what these birds are doing? Birds have complex behaviors that are privileged to witness if only we spend the time to look closely. The guest on this episode of Inquiry is JOHN KRICHER. He is Professor Emeritus of Biology at Wheaton College, where he has taught ecology, ornithology, and vertebrate evolution for 48 years. His new book is the PETERSON REFERENCE GUIDE TO BIRD BEHAVIOR and is a great introduction to understanding bird behavior. (photograph by Sheila Carroll)
