Ornette Coleman is often most closely associated with the concept of “free jazz”. His abstract theory of the “harmolodic” is central to his idea of music. Critics hailed his as the future of jazz or called his music noise. On this episode of Inquiry, we talk with writer MARIA GOLIA. She also managed the Caravan of Dreams Performing Arts Center in Fort Worth Texas, where Coleman was born and where she met the saxophonist. Her brilliant new biography is titled: ORNETTE COLEMAN: THE TERRITORY AND THE ADVENTURE.
