WICN Broadcast Signal Update

Written by on June 25, 2026

Occasionally, the WICN broadcast signal may experience reduced clarity, resulting in increased static or interference from distant radio stations broadcasting on the same frequency. While we take every possible step to minimize these occurrences, they are often caused by a natural atmospheric phenomenon known as tropospheric ducting.

Tropospheric ducting is most common during warm summer weather and can also occur when heat, humidity, rain, and storms create unusual conditions in the atmosphere. These conditions can allow radio signals from far outside our service area to travel much greater distances than normal and interfere with local broadcasts.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and want to assure you that we continually work to minimize the impact whenever possible.

As this is a naturally occurring phenomenon, it does not affect our online stream. If you experience reception issues, you can always listen live at WICN.org.

Thank you for your understanding and for listening to 90.5 WICN.
