Larry Carbone: Hidden Lives of Animals

October 26, 2026

There are many millions of animals and a number of species, that are used for research and experimentation every year. What happens to these animals when the research is completed? Do we still have to use animals as the subjects of experiments? If so, can we make their lab lives better? These are just of a few ethical questions that our guest on Inquiry tonight writes about. LARRY CARBONE was the former Director of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Program at the University of California, San Francisco. For 40 years he was a “lab vet”. His new book is THE HIDDEN LIVES OF LAB ANIMALS: A VET’S VISION FOR A MORE HUMANE FUTURE.
