An offhand suggestion from WCCA TV’s CENTRAL MASS JAZZ FEST founder and leader of the Jazzed Up Trio, Mauro DePasquale to Morning Vibe Time host Michelle Willson … “How about you and Pamela?” …led to a remarkable pairing on 8/11/21.
Both Pamela Hines and Michelle Willson host popular radio programs on local Worcester NPR affiliate station 90.5 WICN. Pamela hosts Jazz Matinee on Saturday afternoons and Michelle hosts Morning Vibe Time M-F 6-9 am. (wicn.org)
In addition, both are accomplished musicians. Willson and Hines are highly regarded in their respective fields, but they have never played music together before.
Michelle Willson is known around the globe as Evil Gal. The Boston native recorded four albums for Rounder Records and has been nominated for the W.C. Handy Award for best blues vocalist. As a member of Anthony Geraci’s Boston Blues All-Stars, she appeared at The Lucerne (Switzerland) Blues Festival in 2018 and The Notodden (Norway) Blues Festival in 2019.
Pamela Hines is a prolific presence in American jazz as a pianist and composer. She has received national and international critical acclaim. Her music is regularly played on national jazz stations. Pamela hosts a weekly program, Saturday Jazz Matinee, as well as the annual Holiday Jazz Jam on 90.5 WICN.
Supported by Marty Richards – drums and Bryan Rizzuto – bass, Willson and Hines dig into a selection of Great American Songbook tunes ranging from Somewhere Over the Rainbow to Whatever Lola Wants…gorgeous melodies…serious soul…deep blues…J-A-Z-Z…Wed.
