Brad Savage / Host

Brad Savage has been destined for radio since childhood. He grew up dissecting the playlists of various radio stations in the Twin Cities and making pretend radio tapes announcing his favorite songs. By high school, he was on the air, hosting overnights on Adult Standards/Big Band station KLBB-AM (1400/1470). He went on to Alternative and Rock formats at well-regarded Minnesota stations like KVSC/St. Cloud, REV105, Cities 97, and 1530 KSMM. It was an enjoyment of Standards, Jazz, Swing, and The Great American Songbook from KLBB that eventually inspired Cruisin’ The Decades since the early roots genres and “Rock & Roll Before Elvis” are scarce on radio airwaves today.

Pursuing full-time radio programming, Savage moved to Missouri and later Madison, WI (WMAD) for his first programming gigs in the early 2000s. After WMAD, Savage went into AAA programming at WQKL Ann Arbor, followed by WCNR Charlottesville, and has been at The Summit (WAPS-FM) since 2015. The Summit FM is a Noncomm AAA Music Discovery station broadcasting in Akron, Canton, Youngstown & Athens, OH. Savage also programs Non-Comm 103.3 The Bridge (WBDB-LP) in Richmond, VA, and 70s/80s/90s Hits WCFI-LP/Cuyahoga Falls, WI.

Along the way, Savage has been nominated for multiple radio awards, including Non-Comm Triple A Program Director of the Year (JBE Entertainment) in 2020 and 2021. He is a 4-time winner of the “Medium Market Triple A Program Director of the Year” award at FMQB’s Triple A Conference. He was named Cville Weekly’s “Favorite Local Radio Personality” in Charlottesville, VA in 2014 and 2015. In 2022, he won the Program Director of the Year for Noncommercial stations at the Triple A SummitFest in Boulder, CO.

Cruisin’ The Decades is about more than just music. The show creates a sense of history, record collecting, broadcasting, geography, and community. Through the program, Savage hopes to bring a shared listening experience to music fans everywhere through the power of music on the airwaves across vast distances. Brad is thrilled to have Cruisin’ The Decades airing on WICN Public Radio every Wednesday night at 10pm!
