Soviets have been fascinated with the promise of travel in outer space and futuristic technology since before the Revolution. Once the “Space Race” began, illustrations of Soviet space accomplishments and imaginary scenes of a bright scientific and technological future could be found in many popular periodicals. On this episode of Inquiry, we talk with writer ALEXANDRA SANKOVA. She is the director of the Moscow Design Museum and has produced a beautiful and fascinating book: SOVIET SPACE GRAPHICS: COSMIC VISIONS FROM THE USSR.
